Tanah Merah steadily grew on the banks of Sungai Kelantan, as merchants dropped in on their way to ply their trade in Bukit Remah.

Slowly, the focus fell away from this earlier trading post, to an area about 3km upstream, where you will find Tanah Merah town today.

Train tracks were laid through the Territory and a railway station built, and the rest, they say, is history.

Early on, Tanah Merah town and the territory of the same name was part of the Pasir Mas Territory.

But from February 2nd 1955, the Territory of Tanah Merah was established, and Tanah Merah town became the seat of administration. A structure local authority was formed under the Locat Government Act of 1952.

In 7 century, a placement and rule centralized Government in get to know as Chi Tu (Red Earth) at one area which  known as Kelantan.Jajahan Tanah Merah's residential population in 2005 is as many as 108,288 people. His majority is Malay community.
